Sole Society Review

As a part of my Holiday Voxbox, I received a coupon for $25 off a pair of Sole Society shoes. At first, I wasn’t too impressed with their selection. I like wedged heels, so I decided to order a pair.

I placed my order for their Shiloh wedges on December 29th. The process was very simple and took maybe five minutes. I never received a confirmation of the shoes shipping, but they arrived on January 8th via UPS. The packaging was simple, but nice. The shoes seem to be a pretty good quality, but I’m not sure it’s worth the $50 price tag.

According to reviews, the Shiloh is said to be a true fit. I found it true for the left foot, but the right foot seems too small. I couldn’t even keep it on long enough to stand up, because it hurt so bad. I found myself checking the size to make sure it was the same as the other. I’m currently in the process of stretching it, to see if that helps.

Would I buy another pair from them? Probably not. I’d rather buy my shoes in person. That way, I know that the shoes will fit. With these shoes from Sole Society, I don’t want to send them back and receive a new pair with the same issue.

Influenster Holiday Voxbox

A couple of weeks ago, I joined Influenster to keep me occupied during my days of bed rest. After a week on the site, I was chosen to receive the 2012 Holiday VoxBox.[1. The VoxBox is complimentary from Influenster for product testing purposes.] I got the box yesterday, and I have to admit that these are some pretty sweet samples.

The box includes: Quaker Real Medleys Oatmeal, NYC Liquid Lipshine, Kiss Nail Dress, Pink Lemonade EBOOST, a Goody QuikStyle Paddle Brush, and a Sole Society coupon.

So far, I’ve only tried the EBOOST, which I was not a fan of. I’m not big on powdered drinks, though. To me, EBOOST was grainy and tasted horrible.

I’ll be sure to update this post with more opinions.

12/27 @ 9pm: I tried the Quaker Real Medleys Oatmeal for dinner. I’m usually a fan of oatmeal, and while it did have a great taste, there was just too much going on for me. There were more almonds, cherries, and pistachios than actual oatmeal. If you’re big on wanting a crunch, this is for you. The oatmeal came in a Ready-to-Go container. All I had to do was add boiling water and stir. It was done in less than 5 minutes.

12/29 @ 12pm: I just used my $25 off coupon for Sole Society.[1. Clicking link will give you $25 off, too. Good until 1/1/13.] UPS ground shipping is free and shoes start at $49.95. You can read the review here.

1/11 @ 1pm: The other day, I tried the NYC Liquid Lipshine. The color that I received was Nude York City. The first day, I wore it alone, but I didn’t like it. It was a bit too sticky for me. The second day, I put on a thin layer of my C.O. Bigelow gloss and then the Liquid Lipshine. Much better result! I can see me adding it to my “prettified” look.

App of the Week: Pocket

In the last post, I focused on Tadaa!, which I’m over as a social network. [1. But I still love it as a photo editor.] This week, my choice is a bit different.

☆ Pocket

Pocket is not my typical choice of app for staying up to date with blogs. I mostly lean towards official apps for websites, like Mashable or iMore; and readers, like Flipboard and Pulse.
I have to admit that I have fallen in love with Pocket, which was previously known as Read It Later. The app isn’t what I thought it was. Pocket is more than a reader. It also has the ability to save photos and video, as well.

★ What is Pocket?

Pocket is a reader app that allows you to save articles to read later. It is integrated with over 300 apps, which allows for ease of use. It also has Chrome and Firefox extensions, as well as a Safari bookmarklet, which I have found myself using very often.

★ How does it work?

Pocket is as simple as finding an article and clicking “Save to Pocket”. At this point, you can choose to add a tag. Once you open the app, it automatically syncs your content. The articles and images are available for offline viewing, but for videos, you need an internet connection. You can search your posts by tag, title, or URL.Pocket_iPhone_Screenshots_List-All-View
When you open an article, it defaults to a single column view. This view strips away all of the CSS and fits the content to your device. What I love about Pocket, is the fact that it also scales the post images. The second view is a webpage view. It allows you to view the post as you would in a regular browser. You can adjust the font size and the screen brightness for night reading. When you are done reading a post, you can click the “check” to move the article to your archive; or you can click the “star” to save it as a favorite.

Overall, I can see myself using Pocket often. [2. Mostly on my iPad.] I enjoy the convenience of not having to read every single blog post in one sitting. At some points throughout the day, I’ll have close to fifty tabs open. Being able to save an article allows me to cut down on tabs, and makes it easier for me to find a post during those times when my toddler turns off my Mac.

App of the Week: Tadaa!

So I’m supposed to be extremely busy doing all of these other important things, and I’m at home playing with my iPhone. [1. Go figure!] Here’s what happened…

I was relaxing in bed, browsing the internet, and somehow I came across I looked at it and said…hmm this is interesting, let me check it out. I grabbed my phone and downloaded it. I have to say that I am impressed.

I’ve been trying out a lot of different photo apps ever since the “Facebook/Instagram thing”. [2. I don’t do Facebook…at all] I have to say that Tadaa is my absolute favorite, so far. I love the editing tools and the social part… Mainly the photo reply- It’s great for challenges. The PC view isn’t too shabby, either. Right now, there is some lag because of the increase in traffic, but I’m expecting some great things from the app.

P.S. I’ll be back to do a real post later.

Happy Friday!

9:42pm. I have never been so happy for a Friday… [1. Well, I’m sure I have been in the past, but it still sounds good.] My boss has been doing the most this week. She’s been practically driving me mad. I was okay with her pushing all of her work off on me. [2. Making me call customers that she was supposed to return calls to a week ago and such.] Then it was pushing back my lunch hours until I was almost passing out from low blood sugar. Today I was over it. I understand that she’s my boss, but there has to be some boundaries.

In other news, I finally got my vision prescription updated. I used my insurance to get my year supply of contacts, but the glasses at the vision care center were extremely overpriced. My mother uses this great site called EyeBuyDirect, so I decided to get a couple of pairs from there since my new doctor didn’t hesitate to give me a copy of my prescription.

The only con is that I can’t try on the glasses to see what they look like, but I always get the same style, so I’m not too overly concerned.

Other than that, it’s the weekend, and I have an entire package of Birthday Cake Oreos to celebrate.
